Pre-marital counselling isn't about problems. It's about understanding each other before life gets busy. Start with these ten conversations.

Most couples spend months planning a wedding and very little time planning a marriage. Pre-marital counselling gives you a calm space to talk about the things that usually only come up during a fight. Here are ten conversations to begin with.

  • What does a 'normal' weekday look like for each of us after marriage?
  • How involved will our families be in our decisions?
  • Where will we live, and for how long?
  • How will we handle money: shared, separate, or both?
  • What are our career plans, and whose takes priority if they clash?
  • Do we want children? When, and how will we share the work?
  • How do we each behave when we're stressed or hurt?
  • What did we learn about love and conflict from our parents?
  • What does respect look like to each of us?
  • How will we keep making time for each other?

Why talk about this with a psychologist?

Because these conversations can stir up strong feelings. A trained, neutral person helps you listen rather than defend, notice patterns early, and leave with agreements you both believe in.

The strongest marriages aren't the ones without differences. They're the ones that learned early how to talk about them.
